Cat and Dog Registrations

As of the 1 May 2007, State Government legislation requires all dogs and cats over the age of three months being registered for the first time or transferring from another Council must be microchipped prior to registration.

If your pet is not registered please ring and ask for a registration form to be mailed to you.  A range of fees apply and can be found on the registration form including a concession rate for pensioners.  Discount fees apply for de-sexed cats and dogs.  A registered animal is given an identification tag that should be worn at all times. For existing registrations, microchipping is also encouraged as a way of identifying stray pets.

The renewal date for registration is 10 April each year, irrespective of when the previous registration was paid.

PET IDENTIFICATION

When you register your pet, Council will automatically give you a numbered registration tag:  Your dog or cat must wear the tag at all times.  If it loses the tag, you can apply for a new one by calling us at the City Of Whittlesea on 9217 2100.

While choosing to register your pet with other animal welfare organisations offers you a valuable additional means of identification for your cat or dog, registration with your local Council is required by law.

Renew Your Pet's Registration Every Year

If you really care about your dog or cat, then register it!

PERMITS

You will need a permit if you keep more than two cats or two dogs.  That limit is set to help protect pets' health and prevent inconvenience to neighbours.
