Major road construction and extensions to public transport are planned for South Morang in the coming years to accommodate the increase in traffic volumes.
A map explaining the current and future transport network for South Morang is available for download on the right and is on display at the Council Offices and Mill Park Library.
Whittlesea Mayor, Councillor Elizabeth Nealy said the displays are designed to keep the community informed on the future of the local transport network.
“The proposed upgrades have taken into consideration the area’s anticipated growth and traffic flow,” she said.
The changes, including recent upgrades to McDonalds Rd, are part of a long term plan for the transport network in the South Morang area.
Cr Nealy said, “this is another example of Council, State Government and the development industry working together to ensure effective traffic management now and into the future.”
The map highlights the extension to Bush Boulevard with a four lane divided road connecting McDonalds Road to Plenty Road near the Mill Park Bunnings store.
Another feature of the plan includes the provision of a wide median along Plenty Road, Bush Boulevard, the divided section of McDonalds Road, Ferres Boulevard and The Lakes Boulevard for the future tram extension from Bundoora.
Funding for the future upgrades will be sought and provided by Council, VicRoads and developer contributions.
