A slice of Italy in Lalor

Media Release

23 July 2008

The Festa San Donato being held next month, is the largest festival of its kind held outside Italy and is expected to attract audiences of around 3,000 people from across the state.

Celebrating its 32nd anniversary, the festival honours San Donato, an Italian Bishop who was beheaded in 301 AD for refusing to abandon his faith.

The festival will include a Mass conducted in Italian and sung in part by the Fiulano Choir and St Luke's School Choir, followed by a colourful procession, opera performances by the Bellini Band and refreshments in the Church Hall.

Celebrations will run from 1.30pm - 5.30pm on Sunday 3 August at St Luke's Church, 1a David Street, Lalor.

Everyone is welcome to come along and enjoy the festival as part of the City of Whittlesea Heritage Program.
