Annual Household Survey on its way

Media Release

20 May 2009

Council is about to conduct its 13th Annual Household Survey to gather information that will help it meet current needs and plan for the future needs of residents.

Whittlesea Mayor, Councillor Mary Lalios said about a thousand households will be randomly selected to receive survey forms delivered by survey assistants who are to return and collect them later in the month.

Cr Lalios said each survey assistant will have identification and a letter of authority from the City of Whittlesea.

She said, “This is the largest and most important survey undertaken by Council that gathers information that is essential when it advocates on behalf of the community to the State and Federal Governments for services and funding.

“The use by residents of private and public transport, their housing needs, preferred shopping sites and participation in community are just some of the types of questions to be asked.

“The information provided by residents is confidential, and will not be recorded in a way that will enable an individual or household to be identified.”

The Mayor said the data gathered by the Australian Bureau of Statistics every five years in the Census is not enough to help Council sufficiently plan for our rapidly growing municipality.

The survey results will be analysed later in the year and its findings are to be published in early 2010.
