An exhibition of new and original artworks depicting the many religions in the City of Whittlesea is about to go on display.
The exhibition, entitled A Celebration of Faith - Shared Values, Shared Concerns, is presented by the Whittlesea Interfaith Network and is supported by the Victorian Multicultural Commission and the City of Whittlesea.
The Whittlesea Interfaith Network was established in 2007 collaboratively with the City of Whittlesea and the Whittlesea Multicultural Communities Council and includes representatives of the Baha'i, Buddhist, Christian, Hindu, Muslim and Sikh faiths.
Mayor Cr Mary Lalios said that artists had been working with each faith group represented to create original works exploring the shared values of each of the faiths.
"This exhibition will provide a fascinating and accessible insight into the different faith based communities in our municipality," Cr Lalios said.
"I hope it will further promote an even greater appreciation of the multicultural and diverse nature of our community and I congratulate members of the Whittlesea Interfaith Network for their vision in helping to broaden everyone's understanding of our different faith communities."
The opening event features performances from local faith communities including music, poetry and dance.
The exhibition is being held at the Great Hall, Council Offices, Ferres Blvd, South Morang. The opening takes place at 1pm on Saturday 1 August and the exhibition continues from 11am - 4pm from Sunday 2 August to Sunday 9 August.
The Whittlesea Interfaith Networks aims to promote harmony, understanding and space for interfaith sharing in the Whittlesea municipality, acknowledge and promote faith as a community value, provide the opportunity for Interfaith dialogue and facilitate interfaith activities.
