My Connected Community

What is my connected community (mc2)?

The City of Whittlesea is offering residents an exciting opportunity to create their own online community through my connected community, a Victorian Government funded project, coordinated by VICNET. An online community is a group of people with a common interest who use the internet to communicate.

My Connected Community aims to rapidly stimulate the development of online communities of interest in Victoria and ensure that the benefits of online technology are shared across the entire community.

How does mc2 work?

mc2 is a project aimed at encouraging community groups to create "online" communities. mc2 offers groups a variety of easy to use services through its web site (which can be launched from the RELATED LINKS section to the right) that community members & groups can use to communicate with existing members and like-minded communities.

How can we benefit from mc2?

The mc2 website can be used in many different ways by individuals and groups to:

  • Create your own online community
  • Chat with other people in your community group
  • Meet other people
  • Create a website
  • Share information
  • Use and develop your internet skills.

Who is responsible for mc2?

The mc2 Project Officer for the City of Whittlesea provides training and support for groups in the Whittlesea municipality.

How do I become involved?

All the services offered by mc2 are available through a website, so you will need to:

  • Know how to use a computer and have basic experience of using the Internet

  • Be able to access a computer that is connected to the Internet.

Once your group has agreed to participate, Council's mc2 Project Officer will work closely with two group members (known as ‘group owners and moderators’) to provide training on how to use the website. The mc2 group owners and moderators are responsible for training, supporting and monitoring their group’s involvement, as well as making sure that their group members are following the mc2 Code of Conduct.

If you are interested in participating or need more information you can download the fact sheet from the RELATED DOWNLOADS section to the right or see the mc2 website in the RELATED LINKS section to the right.
