Council adopts draft Epping central structure plan

A visionary plan that will guide Epping Central on a journey to becoming an attractive, welcoming and sustainable urban place over the next 20-30 years has been adopted by the City of Whittlesea for public consultation.

The Draft Epping Central Structure Plan (ECSP) will now go through a community and stakeholder engagement process over the coming months.

“Epping has always been a place of change and is now set to enter a new and very exciting phase,” Whittlesea Mayor Cr Rex Griffin said.

“As our municipality’s Principal Activity Centre, Epping Central will be the City of Whittlesea’s vibrant heart, a public transport hub, a focus for economic development, and a key location for new housing close to facilities and services.

“The Draft ECSP is a comprehensive and broad-ranging ‘road map’, that shows the way forward for Council, residents, business owners, service providers, land owners, developers and investors, bringing everyone together to make the Epping Central vision a reality.”

“This plan ensures that Epping Central continues to be a great place to live, work and play, for residents and for the entire City of Whittlesea community. I am looking forward to seeing the response of our community,” he added.

Two major rounds of community and stakeholder engagement have previously been undertaken over the last three years resulting in the Draft ECSP.  It has been prepared by the City of Whittlesea with detailed input from the Victorian State Government, the community and landowners of Epping Central.

“To date the project has also leveraged State Government funding of $586,000 towards strategic investigations and $1,170,000 towards physical improvements,” Cr Griffin said.

“Once the ECSP is in place, we expect further investment.  It has also already resulted in significant improvements to the new Epping Station Redevelopment.”

“Council and the State Government will continue to work together, in consultation with the Epping Central community, to implement and deliver the policies and major projects set out in this important Structure Plan.”

Further information regarding the ECSP and how to provide feedback will be available in the coming weeks.
