Public notices

We are legally required to give 'public notice' of Council meetings and of proposals where members of the public have a right to make a submission.

We publish our public notices in 2 newspapers that circulate in the City of Whittlesea, the Whittlesea Leader and The Age. We also publish them online in our News section.

The Local Government Act 1989 requires public notice to be given when Council proposes to:

  • make or amend a local law
  • adopt the Annual Budget
  • adopt the Council Plan
  • declare a general or special rate
  • change the system of valuing land
  • discuss the Council Annual Report
  • finalise the Voters' Roll before a Council election
  • review councillor allowances
  • review Council’s electoral boundaries
  • sell or lease land
  • declare a road to be a public highway or to be open to the public
