Art Exhibition: Reflections: Looking forward, looking back

An exhibition of artworks made by, and with community from 2009-2019. Messages written in community centres throughout January and early February, on leaves of seeded paper, will be added to a ‘tree of love’ sculpture in a community gathering within a multi-layered reflective installation. Drop in anytime from 10am to the Whittlesea Community Garden, Community Activity Centre and Whittlesea Library in Laurel Street to participate in relaxed reflective art activities, enjoy some light refreshments or simply be in a supported space with people who understand the significance of the day. A community remembrance service will be held at 6.45pm in the Whittlesea Community Garden and everyone is welcome. This service is coordinated by the Community Resilience Committee and will include a minute’s silence at 7pm, some community readings and songs from the Whittlesea Township Choir. All welcome. As part of the community events to acknowledge the 10 Year Anniversary of the 2009 Victorian Bushfires, the community will be hosting an afternoon tea with Her Excellency the Honourable Linda Dessau AC, Governor of Victoria, and Mr Anthony Howard AM QC. A community gathering will occur from 9am-10am on Saturday 9 February at the Whittlesea Bushfire Memorial at Toorourrong Reservoir Park, Jacks Creek Rd, Whittlesea. The Whittlesea Country Music Festival will activate Church St, Whittlesea with buskers and other informal community activities from 10am - 2pm then move to Walker Reserve for a free music concert from 4pm.
