City of Whittlesea to showcase early years

City of Whittlesea to showcase early years

Monday, September 05, 2022

This September is all about kids and fun as Council hosts the Bringing Up Kids Expo in-person on Wednesday 7 September followed by the Kindergarten Open Night on Thursday 8 September.

After two years online, the Bringing Up Kids Expo returns in person, with information for parents and fun activities for children.

City of Whittlesea Chair Administrator Lydia Wilson said these events provide an opportunity for families and carers to learn more about what’s available locally.

“As we welcome a growing number of families to the City of Whittlesea each year, we are committed to providing access to local facilities and programs which can support children to thrive in life.”

“Having events like the Bringing Up Kids Expo and the Kindergarten Open Night provides parents, carers and families with young children with the opportunity to see what’s on offer in their local community.” Ms Wilson said.

At the Bringing Up Kids Expo families can meet with early years associations while children can enjoy fun activities like art and craft, kinetic sand play, intergenerational activities, story-telling, paper-based activities and more. Council staff will also be on hand to assist with information about all programs, including advice on applying for kindergarten.

The Expo will be held on Wednesday 7 September from 10am to 1pm at Barry Road Community Activity Centre, Thomastown.  You can register at bit.ly/3cB020Q .

On Thursday 8 September, local kindergartens will throw open their doors for our annual kindergarten open night. From 5.30pm, parents, carers, families and children are invited to check out the various kindergarten facilities and ask any questions about the 3 and 4-year-old programs. No booking is required.

The Victorian Government recently announced free kinder as part of its early years education reform.
