Council welcomes transport funding

The City of Whittlesea has welcomed news of $750 million additional funding in this week’s Federal Budget towards the delivery of Camerons Lane Interchange to progress the Beveridge Intermodal Precinct. 

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese visited Beveridge this week to announce the funding commitment which will enable the delivery of Beveridge Intermodal Precinct as a major freight and logistics hub in Melbourne’s north.

Chair Administrator Lydia Wilson said the announcement was key to enabling infrastructure for the important project in an area experiencing rapid growth.

“The north of Melbourne is home to more than one million people with the population forecast to grow to just under 1.5 million by 2036.

“This investment in an important foundational piece of the project and will ensure job creation both now and into the future.

The Beveridge Intermodal Precinct is expected to contribute $2.5 billion to the Victorian economy each year and generate 20,000 jobs in the north.

“We are pleased to see work continuing on this important regional project which will deliver an enormous boost to local employment,” Lydia said.

“We will continue to work with National Intermodal, our neighbouring Councils and all levels of government to support this vital infrastructure project.”
