Getting together again - Council set to go live for 2021 Carols

Tuesday, November 30, 2021

City of Whittlesea Carols by Candlelight is back as both a live in-person and online event on Friday 10 December.

After being online only last year due to COVID-19, this year the carols will return to its traditional home on the Terrace Lawns at the Civic Centre in South Morang.

It will also be streamed online for those who are unable to make it in person.

City of Whittlesea Chair Administrator Lydia Wilson said she was thrilled to see live events returning.

“We are very much looking forward to seeing the community come together again and Carols marks a welcome return to in-person events in the City of Whittlesea,” she said.

“I’ll be attending along with my fellow Administrator Peita Duncan and CEO Craig Lloyd and it’s going to be brilliant to be able to catch up with members of the community in person again.”

“It’s been a long couple of years for us all, so to return gathering in a COVID-safe way and bringing some festive season joy to everyone will be wonderful.”

The family friendly picnic-style event will include Christmas carol favourites and a celebration of customs from the City of Whittlesea’s diverse community.

The 2021 Carols will kick off at 7.30pm with gates opening at 6pm leaving plenty of time to get comfortable and enjoy the various activities, food trucks, a community barbecue, and a small Christmas market.

There will be roving entertainment between 6pm and 8pm. Solo performances will begin from 7.30pm. The choir and musical performances will also be live-streamed with Auslan interpreters ensuring no-one misses out on the fun.

Highlights of the night will include local duo Just the two of us, Diamond Valley Brass, SOULVoices local vocal group, Aseel, Meena and Camille, Michelle Cook and Amanda Bellocci and Belinda Stancomb.

While the event is free, attendees will need to book a ticket and be required to show evidence of full vaccination or an official exemption to gain entry.

Tickets can be booked through the Whittlesea Art website.
