Help design a new vision for Thomastown and Lalor

Help design a new vision for Thomastown and Lalor

Thursday, July 08, 2021

The City of Whittlesea is inviting Thomastown and Lalor residents and business owners to help shape a future vision for the area.

Thomastown and Lalor are two of our City’s most vibrant and diverse suburbs, with a rich heritage and sense of community.

Chair Administrator Lydia Wilson said with the population set to increase over the next 20 years, it is important to set a clear vision on how Thomastown and Lalor will look, feel and function in the future.

“Council has been speaking with the local community over the past few months to find out what they see as the biggest challenges and opportunities for these suburbs,” Ms Wilson said.

“We have heard what people love about Thomastown and Lalor like the local shops and history, friendly people, and beautiful gardens.

“We also heard about the challenges people experience, including public transport connections and traffic issues, access to public open space and programs and activities for our young people.”

Council is proposing six urban design principles to address the challenges and opportunities identified in Thomastown and Lalor and is seeking feedback from residents and businesses in these areas to find out if they align with the community’s future vision.

Feedback will inform the vision through an Urban Design Framework, which will be presented to Council in mid-2022.
