Looking for a perfect match

Looking for a perfect match

Thursday, March 05, 2020

A new program is looking to match vacant shops with the perfect business and bring life to the City of Whittlesea’s local shopping strips.

Vacant to Vibrant is kicking off with a campaign to fill several empty shops at Rochdale Square in Lalor.

Property owners Jo and John said “their shop had been vacant for some time and they had been struggling to find a tenant for the property which is ideally suited to an allied health or specialist consulting rooms”.

If there are multiple vacancies in an area, people start taking their business elsewhere leading to a decline in foot traffic causing hardship for remaining businesses and a decline in the vibrancy of a centre.

“We want to work together for the benefit of property owners, traders and local residents.”

Council’s economic development team is running the program across the City of Whittlesea.

Director of Partnerships, Planning and Engagement Julian Edwards encouraged both vacant retail property owners and prospective businesses to make contact.

“We’d also love to hear from start-ups or small businesses that might be interested in a pop-up or short-term agreement!

“We really want to do our best to find the right mix of local shops for each community and ensure local residents can continue to shop locally.”
