Planning applications go online

Planning applications go online

Thursday, July 29, 2021

Council's new online portal is allowing people to manage their planning permit applications from the comfort of their own homes and at a time that suits them best.

The web portal enables people to manage their whole planning process from start to finish in the one location, as well as get real-time application status updates.

City of Whittlesea Administrator Chris Eddy said the portal would help make the task of applying for a planning application simpler.

“Our community has been telling us they want the planning process to be quicker and easier and more accessible online,” he said.

“We’ve worked to do this through a new online portal which brings a much greater transparency for the customer across the whole process from start to finish.”

The website offers a self-assessment tool for residents to see the planning requirements for a parcel of land as well as seeking pre-application advice from Council’s planning team.

People can submit documentation, make amendments to applications, request extensions of time and pay any required fees online.

Each year the City of Whittlesea receives about 1000 planning applications and processes 1500 property information requests. The portal makes the process easier for applicants and quicker for Council to action requests.
