Road safety upgrades for Masons Road

Road safety upgrades for Masons Road

Tuesday, December 08, 2020

Raised pavements will be installed on Masons Road in Mernda and Wollert as part of a plan to reduce speed and decrease traffic on the busy thoroughfare.

The popular east-west shortcut is a hotspot for road accidents, with residents calling on Council to make the road safer and help reduce the risk of accidents.

Chair Administrator Ms Lydia Wilson said the safety and wellbeing of its residents was Council’s utmost priority.

“Through extensive consultation with the community, we’ve come up with a solution that will discourage traffic on the gravel section of Masons Road and slow down speeding vehicles,” Ms Wilson said.

“We’ll work closely with locals to measure the effectiveness of these upgrades and continue to do everything we can to get residents where they need to be, safely.”

As one of the fastest growing municipalities in Victoria, City of Whittlesea continues to advocate to the Victorian Government on behalf of the community to upgrade essential road infrastructure in line with population growth, including the duplication of Bridge Inn Road.

The 15 raised pavements on Masons Road will be installed between Plenty Road and Texel Drive in the new year.
