Environmental Sustainability Strategy

Our Environmental Sustainability Strategy 2012-2022 will outline a 10-year framework for us and the community to work together towards a more sustainable future.

Environmental Sustainability Strategy

The strategy aims to protect our city’s unique natural assets and quality of life, in the face of rapid urban growth.

We developed the strategy after 4 years of extensive community consultation, research and policy development. It was adopted by Council at the Council meeting on 7 May 2013.

The strategy approaches sustainability through 7 priority areas:

  • water
  • land
  • climate change
  • biodiversity
  • urban development and the built environment
  • waste management and resource recovery
  • change strategies

Greenhouse gas emissions

We have been measuring our its corporate greenhouse gas emissions and taking action to reduce these emissions for many years.

Our corporate greenhouse gas emissions emissions target is that "Council will uphold a zero net increase on greenhouse gas emissions to 2022, based on 2012 levels".

To ensure that we are meeting this target, our corporate emissions are measured and reported on annually. If you would like to view a copy of previous years report please email sustainability@whittlesea.vic.gov.au.

Environmental Indicators Report

Our Environmental Indicators Report focuses on environmental trends over time at either the municipal, program and/or policy and corporate level.

The results of this Report will be considered in future Council decisions and will be used to inform policy direction and priority projects.
