Highlights

Our 3 - week cultural awareness training provides participants with introductory knowledge of Aboriginal culture in Victoria, as well as culturally respectful ways of working with, and walking alongside, Aboriginal people, families, and communities.
Session 1: Language, Protocols, Country, and Appropriation
• Correct terms to use to identify Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People
• Traditional place names
• Aboriginal Life Before and After Colonisation
• Your culture, country, and connection
• Your language, family, and traditions
• Aspects of Aboriginal culture
• Timelines of colonisation


Session 2 - The Stolen Generations
• What is the Stolen Generation?
• Removal of Aboriginal Children and why/how they were removed
• Bringing them home report and testimonials
• Effects of the families today
• Exploring Your Culture
• What is culture and seeing culture through a cultural lens
• Understanding white privilege
• Understanding stereotypes and lateral violence.


Session 3 – Understanding Aboriginal Culture Today
• Cultural Identity and Dates of significance
• Resilience and strength history and Aboriginal People
• Working Respectfully with Aboriginal Children, Families and Workers
• Cultural Safety, what is it and how to create a culturally safe space?
• Consider terms and phrases used by Aboriginal People (Sorry Business, Men’s/Women’s Business)
