Reconciliation Action Plan

Reconciliation Action Plan

Our Reconciliation Action Plan 2012-2015 aims to enhance our ability to achieve the best possible opportunities and outcomes with our Aboriginal communities.

The plan - adopted on 4 September 2012 - sets out 16 actions that we will complete over 3 years to make a meaningful contribution to reconciliation with local Aboriginal communities.

We partnered with the Whittlesea Reconciliation Group to develop the plan, and are required to regularly report to the group on its progress.

We have long embraced the importance of reconciliation and the significant role we can play in it.

This plan builds on our past reconciliation achievements and deepens our relationship with, respect and opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

Some of the key actions in the plan include:

  • educating the local community about the City of Whittlesea’s Aboriginal history
  • adding significant Aboriginal events to Council’s community events calendar
  • setting up employment opportunities within Council for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people

The plan is based on the principles of respect, self determination, equity, justice and partnerships, and was developed in accordance with Reconciliation Australia's RAP guidelines.
