Social Support Groups

We run a number of activity groups at locations across the City of Whittlesea that offer social activities for eligible residents.

There are also a number of senior citizen clubs that operate in the municipality that host regular activities and outings.

The Illoura Club

This group is for residents aged 65 and over, and can also accommodate people with dementia. The program includes culturally-appropriate groups for Macedonian and Italian residents as well as a men's group.

Activities include:

  • quiz competitions
  • listening to guest speakers
  • sing-a-longs or listing to music
  • nostalgia talks - or having a chat about the good old days
  • ball games
  • day trips
  • craft
  • cooking
  • chair-based exercise
  • indoor bowls

Elders Motivated and Deadly - Aboriginal Planned Activity Group

This group is specially designed for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elders who live in or are visiting the City of Whittlesea.

Held on Wednesday and Thursday each week, this group assists Elders to remain active and involved in their community.

Activities include:

  • centre-based activities
  • social outings
  • lunch
  • transport
