> How does the ban affect the community?
From 1 November 2019 retailers will not be allowed to supply lightweight plastic shopping bags in Victoria.
> What can the community do ahead of the ban?
Use the reusable bags you already have for all your shopping and to further reduce plastic pollution switch to reusable produce bags, coffee cups, food containers and drink bottle. When leaving home to go shopping remember to take your bags, keys, wallet and phone.
> What is Council doing in response to the ban?
Council regularly promotes waste minimisation messages and will use Sustainability Victoria’s Better Bag Habits Campaign to encourage residents to bring their own reusable bag for all their shopping.
> How will the ban be enforced?
The ban will be enforced by the Environment Protection Authority (EPA) Victoria and supported by community reporting mechanisms. For more details contact the EPA on 1300 EPA VIC or contact@epa.vic.gov.au
