Highlights

Do you have clothes or textiles that need mending but you have no idea where to start or how to do it properly? Or, do you own a sewing machine and it's sitting there collecting dust? If you answered yes to either question, this workshop is for you.

We will cover:

  • repairing a button
  • sewing a patch into clothes
  • hemming to adjust length
  • reusing old fabrics to create something new like a quilt, artwork or piece of clothing
  • stepping up your skills on your sewing machine

All attendees will receive a travel sewing kit and reference materials to take home. We will also discuss the fast-fashion industry and how the system creates so much unnecessary waste and steps you can take to avoid good fabrics from ending up in landfill.

The exact location will be updated closer to the event.

The Sustainable Communities Workshop Series aims to up-skill City of Whittlesea community members in the art of sustainable, climate-resilient living and community-building. Participants are encouraged to attend all sessions to be entered into a prize drawing at the series' end. Every workshop participant will also receive a certificate of recognition for their participation and have the opportunity to share their learnings and creations at the celebration showcase in November 2023.
