Keeping Multiple Animals

If you keep more than 2 cats or 2 dogs you will need to apply for an Excess Animal Permit. This Permit helps to protect our pet’s health and prevent inconvenience to our neighbours.

Excess Animal Permits are a life time permit for the property with a once off fee. Therefore Council does not send renewal notices for these permits.

If you have an existing permit please advise Council of any changes. The permits are reviewed by Council annually and Council Officers will get in contact with permit holders as required.

For properties less than 4000sqm you must apply for a permit to keep Horses, Donkeys, Alpacas, Llamas, Cattle, Sheep, Goats and Pigs.

If you require information for properties for land more than 4000sq metres or about Livestock please contact our Animal Management Team on 9217 2170 or email Animal.Management@whittlesea.vic.gov.au.
