Keeping wildlife as pets

Tortoises, lizards, snakes, crocodiles and frogs require special care when kept as pets.

Most reptiles are shy animals, and should be handled as little as possible. Poisonous snakes should only be kept by experts.

The laws under which reptiles and frogs can be kept as pets, and regulations about enclosures and license fees are available from the Department of Environment and Primary Industry website.
