The City of Whittlesea is upgrading the Reid Street car park in South Morang to improve safety and accessibility for people using the Gorge Road shopping precinct.
Council has called for tenders and is aiming to appoint a contractor in May 2025 to expand the Reid Street car park to 85 total spaces.
The project will also include replacement of the car park’s lights with new LED lighting to meet current lighting standards.
New trees will be planted in the car park to provide additional shade to the area.
It is anticipated the works will commence in June 2025 and take approximately three months, depending on site and weather conditions.
Yes, the Gorge Road shops will remain open at all times during the works.

The preschool and the car park will operate as normal for the duration of the works.
There will not be any major impact to the preschool car park; however, it is anticipated there will be some construction noise and dust from the works.
The car park site will be barricaded and appropriate signage will be in place.
