Creative Writing Workshops - Possibility and Imagination

The City of Whittlesea and Yarra Plenty Regional Library are calling all 8 to 12-year-olds to take part in a creative writing project, where you’ll get the chance to be part of an eBook anthology filled with voices just like yours.
Join children’s author Lisa Foley for two fun and friendly workshops where you can get inspired and start creating. You don’t need to be an expert, just bring your ideas and a sense of adventure. Discover the Writer in you.

You can also join the information session at Mill Park Leisure on Thursday, 2 October at the Bringing Up Kids Expo. Details below:
When: Thursday 2 October, 10am to 1pm
Where: Mill Park Leisure Centre
(Drop in anytime at the Bringing Up Kids Expo)
If you can’t attend a workshop or information session, don’t worry. You’ll still be able to submit a creative piece for the eBook.
Eligibility and submission criteria
- Participants must be between the ages of 8 and 12, and live or study in the City of Whittlesea
- Submissions must be received via email by 11.59pm, Friday 31 October 2025. Entries received after the closing date may not be considered.
- Entries must be submitted to bundooramillpark.community@whittlesea.vic.gov.au
- Entries are to be submitted via email only. No physical paper entries will be accepted.
- Entries must not exceed two pages. Longer entries will not be considered.
- Entries must be submitted using Microsoft WORD. PDFs will not be accepted.
- Entries must include a cover page with the following information:
- Your name (First name only will be displayed in the eBook)
- Age
- Phone number
- Email address
- Title of creative piece
- Suburb in the City of Whittlesea you live or study in.
Additional guidelines
- Creative pieces on the theme Possibility and Imagination can be submitted in the format of short stories, poetry, graphics or comics
- Fonts and text size to be used: Title – ARIAL, size 12; story text – ARIAL, size 10
- If any pictures/ images are to part of your submission, please attach these in high resolution picture file
- Entries created (partially or fully) by generative AI will not be accepted.
- Entries must not contain swearing, violence, or inappropriate content or language. Entries including such material will not be considered for the published ebook anthology.
- Final decisions regarding the inclusion of entries for the anthology eBook is at the discretion of the City of Whittlesea and Yarra Plenty Regional Library.
- The final eBook may be published on the Yarra Plenty Regional Library and City of Whittlesea Council websites.
