Epping Cemetery Community Asset Committee

About Epping Cemetery

Epping Cemetery is a historic and culturally significant site, serving the local community for generations. With its peaceful setting and deep community roots, the cemetery is a place of remembrance for many local families. It reflects the area's heritage and remains an important part of Epping's story.

The cemetery is currently operated by the Epping Cemetery Trust, with the City of Whittlesea acting as the Trust under the Cemeteries and Crematoria Act 2003. Council is responsible for the care, maintenance and operation of the cemetery, and for ensuring it continues to meet the needs of the community both now and into the future.

Community Asset Committee

To help support the Trust, Council is establishing the Epping Cemetery Community Asset Committee (ECCAC), a group of local volunteers who will contribute to the ongoing stewardship of the cemetery.

This committee will provide a community voice in the management of the site and assist with tasks such as:

  • Providing input into the cemetery’s maintenance and improvement
  • Supporting the preservation of its heritage value
  • Helping shape plans for future upgrades or works
  • Acting as a liaison between Council and cemetery users.

Members of the committee will be appointed by Council following a public Expression of Interest (EOI) process.

How to get involved

Council is now calling for EOIs to join the Committee. If you have a connection to the cemetery, an interest in local heritage, or relevant experience, you’re encouraged to apply.

Participation is voluntary, and Council aims to appoint a diverse group of members who represent the community’s views and values.
