Mayor and Deputy Mayo

The City of Whittlesea Council last night elected Councillor Lawrie Cox as its Mayor and Councillor Blair Colwell as Deputy Mayor for the next 12 months.

Councillor Cox, who is the ward councillor for Ganbu Gulinj, said he was looking forward to working with everyone and continuing to grow our great city.

“This group of Councillors has come a long way in a 12-month period, and I look forward to continuing that journey for the betterment of the City of Whittlesea,” he said.

Councillor Cox, who previously served as Mayor in 2018, and Shire President in 1982, also thanked outgoing Mayor, Councillor Martin Taylor, and Deputy Mayor, Councillor Daniela Zinni for their service during the previous mayoral term.

Councillor Cox also emphasised the importance of experience in addition to enthusiasm in representing our residents. “People need to understand the role of Councillors in providing direction on policy and the separate role of our staff in delivery of the operational requirements.”

Councillor Colwell, who is the Mill Park Ward Councillor, said it was an honour and responsibility taking on the role of Deputy Mayor, but one he would endeavour to live up to and exceed.

“I look forward to working collaboratively with my colleagues to serve the best interests of the community,” said Councillor Colwell.
