This free family-friendly open day invites you to explore the park, enjoy the outdoors and take part in activities for all ages.

Explore the parkland

bunjil nganga Parkland brings together three connected areas for the community to enjoy:

  • Aboriginal Gathering Place
  • Granite Hills Major Community Park
  • bunjil nganga trail network.

You can enjoy the stunning views from the top of the hill across the surrounding landscape.

Visitors can enjoy the stunning views from the top of the hill across the surrounding landscape and move around the community spaces, explore and enjoy a full day of fun, culture, nature and outdoor activities.  

Highlights 

  • First Nations performances, cultural workshops and art displays at the Aboriginal Gathering Place
  • Live music and roving performers throughout the site
  • Kids’ activities, face painting, art and sustainability activities near the playground
  • Food trucks and picnic spaces to relax and enjoy the day 
  • Free shuttle bus to help people move between the Aboriginal Gathering Place and Granite Hills Major Community Park.

Note: Activities will take place across two locations within bunjil nganga Parkland, at the Aboriginal Gathering Place from 12pm-3pm and Granite Hills Major Community Park from 10am-3pm. A full program and site map will be available on the website closer to the event.

  • 12pm: Open to public and Wurundjeri Elders Cultural Awareness Speech
  • 12.30pm: Claire and Sam
  • 1pm: Cultural Heritage and First People’s Artefacts with Jayden Garvey
  • 2pm: Claire and Sam
  • 2.30pm: Cultural Heritage and First People’s Artefacts with Jayden Garvey
  • 3pm: Event ends.

Granite Hills Major Community Park - Playground program

  • 10.30am: Djirri Djirri Dance Workshop 
  • 12pm, 1pm, 2pm: Home Made Space Machine
  • 3pm: Event ends 

All day: Food Trucks, Eco Explorers, Animals of Oz, Art Activities, Roving Performers and Face Painting by Yarn Strong Sista.

Who can attend?

Anyone can attend Bunjil nganga Parkland open day. All activities, performances, installations and activations are family-friendly and appropriate for all ages.

How much does it cost?

It’s free to attend the event. All activities are free. There are food and non-alcoholic drink options available for purchase.

Is the venue wheelchair accessible?

Pathways within the Granite Hills Major Community Park are accessible by wheelchair. The Aboriginal Gathering Place is also accessible. Some activities are programmed in grassed areas adjacent to the Granite Hills Major Community Park are not accessible. Please note that there is no accessible pathway between the Aboriginal Gathering Place and the Granite Hills Major Community Park.

Are there restrooms available?

Yes, accessible restrooms are available in the Granite Hills Major Community Park and the Aboriginal Gathering Place.

Do I need to bring anything?

Bring a chair or picnic rug to sit, a hat and sunscreen, friends and family.

Can I bring my dog?

bunjil nganga Parkland is a conservation reserve and does not support dogs off leash. Restrictions apply to dogs within 10m of playspaces In the Granite Hills Major Community Park playground.

Can I bring food and drink?

Yes, BYO picnics and drinks are permitted. Please do not bring glass bottles.

What food options are available?

The following food vendors will be operating on the day:

  • Mr Soft Serve and Gelati

Can I take pictures?

Yes. We’d love to see your pictures. If you’re posting on Instagram, feel free to tag us @citywhittlesea to share your discoveries with the community.

Emergency management

Security and site wardens will be stationed across the site wearing orange high visibility jackets. Please speak with them to report any emergency.

First aid

First aid services will be located near at the lawns in the Granite Hills Major Community Park.

How do I get to the bunjil nganga Parkland open day?

Bunjil nganga Parkland open day is located at bunjil nganga Parkland Quarry Hills, 105 Hunters Road, South Morang 3752.

There is limited parking available at the event site. We recommend taking public transport and/or walking. Closest available public transport stops are the 386 Bus Stops right outside the event entry at Waterview Dr/Cravens Rd.

Additional overflow parking will be available at Waterview Recreation Reserve with a shuttle bus operating continuously from 10am to 3pm.

A shuttle bus is also available for transport from the Granite Hills Major Community Park to the Aboriginal Gathering Place.

Is there parking available?

While there is limited parking available at the bunjil nganga Parklands, additional parking is available at the Waterview Recreation Reserve.  A shuttle bus will operate between the reserve and parklands from 10am to 3.30pm.

Where is the nearest public transportation?

The event is approximately a 1 minute walk from the 386 bus stop at Cravens Road and Waterview Road.

What happens if it’s raining?

The event will go ahead as planned, some acts or installations may be modified for wet weather. Please bring some wet-weather clothing.

How should I dress for the event?

Be prepared for warm weather. Hats, sunglasses and long sleeves are recommended.

Lost property

Our information tent is located at the stage in the Granite Hills Major Community Park for lost property.

Photography, media and filming

This event will be captured by our photographers and videographers for use on social media and in City of Whittlesea marketing materials. By attending the event, you are agreeing to have your image used for these purposes. If you would not like your image captured, simply let one of our friendly staff know.
