Youth services

The City of Whittlesea Youth Service exists to provide a range of opportunities for young people aged 10 – 25 to participate in their community. Young people from all backgrounds and abilities are invited to take part and get involved in everything we do.

 

Baseline provides support to young people, youth groups, parents, and other agencies that work with young people. Young people can:

The City of Whittlesea Youth Service is proudly Rainbow Tick accredited. The Rainbow Tick is designed to support organisations to improve the quality of services they provide to lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and gender diverse, intersex, queer and asexual (LGBTIQA+) service users, staff a volunteers.

City of Whittlesea Youth Environmental Summit Working Group

We’re looking for young people aged 12-25 to co-design the "City of Whittlesea Youth Environmental Summit 2023"

The first Youth Summit meeting is on:
Date: Thursday 15 December
Time: 4 - 5.30pm
Venue: Shop MM1, Westfield Plenty Valley, The Edge, 415 McDonalds Road Mill Park

More meetings will be scheduled in the new year.

Commitment:
A total of six 90-minute planning meetings in which young people will work together with City of Whittlesea staff to design the focus, content and structure of the Summit (some follow up tasks may be set in between meeting times).

Working group members will be expected to commit to attending meetings and being actively involved in the Summit on the day.

Youth Mentoring Career Pathways Program

The Youth Mentoring Career Pathways (YMCP) program brokers relationships between marginalised young people and mentors within the local community.

Young people are carefully matched with a volunteer Mentor from a professional background. Mentors provide individual support and guidance with career pathway planning for up to nine months.

Mentors can assist with:

  • Resume writing
  • Looking for jobs
  • Preparing for interviews
  • Goal setting
  • Practicing English
  • Education and Career pathways
  • Expanding your networks

Workshops are a great way to expand your knowledge, connect with other young people

and mentors to learn new skills that support you personally and professionally.

We run workshops online and in person and cover a range of topics including:

  • Job readiness and preparing for work
  • Career and life coaching to reach your goals
  • Discovering your passion and purpose
  • Self-care for wellbeing and building resilience

Who can join?

To join the YMCP program you must:

  • be 16-24 years old
  • be connected to Whittlesea (live, study, socialise etc.)
  • be currently unemployed or under-employed

Youth Development Officers

Youth workers listen to and advocate for young people. They can offer information, resources and referral on issues affecting young people and their families, and also make links with schools, and plan community projects.

Whittlesea Youth Environment Action Group

Young people aged 12 to 18 with a passion for the environment are invited to join a local group of like-minded young people.

  • Get to know what other young people want to do & share you enviro-passions
  • Help design real community action & change

The Youth Environment Group runs each Friday afterschool, during school term at Edge Services for Young People at Westfield Plenty Valley.
