City of Whittlesea launches Which Bin? app
Published on 20 May 2026
Council is excited to launch the free Which Bin? app, making it easier than ever to stay on top of household waste and recycling. Residents will never have to wonder “which bin goes out tonight?” again.
Designed to take the guesswork out of bin day, the app provides personalised bin collection schedules, reminders, waste-sorting tips and tailored service updates for each household address.
The launch of the app comes ahead of Council expanding its existing food and garden waste service to all households across the municipality as part of the Victorian Government's standardised four-bin waste and recycling reforms.
More than 55,000 households already use the food and garden waste service, with new green-lid bins to begin rolling out to additional households from June ahead of collections starting in July 2026.
The Which Bin? app will support residents through this transition, making bin day simpler and easier to manage. The app provides clear guidance on which bins to put out each week, sends collection reminders, and helps residents correctly dispose of everyday household items - from batteries and electronics through to food scraps and garden clippings. Residents can also access a personalised 12-month bin calendar and receive updates about service changes.
The app also provides quick links for residents to report missed or damaged bins and access local waste and recycling information.
The Which Bin? app is available to download for free from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. For more information, visit the Which Bin? app page.
