National Sorry Day

National Sorry Day is held across Australia each year on 26 May to acknowledge and raise awareness of the history and continued impacts of the Stolen Generations on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. 

This day of remembrance promotes truth-telling and healing by commemorating the release of the 1997 Bringing Them Home Report by the Australian Human Rights Commission, which documented the forced removal of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children from their families. 

National Sorry Day is a time for all Australians to come together in reflection and respect, honouring the resilience, strength and enduring cultures of First Nations communities.

National Sorry Day 2026

Join Elders, community members and the City of Whittlesea to honour and respect the Stolen Generations with a commiseration ceremony featuring a guest speaker, a minute’s silence and a Sorry Walk. A barbecue and light refreshments will be provided.
