Published on 14 October 2025
The City of Whittlesea is calling on passionate young people aged 12–22 years to step forward, get involved and help shape the future of their community as part of the City of Whittlesea Youth Council 2026–2027.
Serving a two-year term, the Youth Council provides a unique opportunity for young leaders to directly influence local decision-making, represent their peers, and create meaningful change across the municipality.
The current Youth Council has achieved significant outcomes during their tenure, including leading a youth-driven campaign on the dangers of vaping through The Bitter Truth project, contributing to Council’s Youth Strategy, and advocating for greater action on mental health, education and employment, and environmental sustainability.
Their work has helped bring youth perspectives into Council priorities, and they continue to raise awareness on issues that matter most to young people, from climate change and wellbeing to inclusion and accessibility.
The Youth Council meets monthly. Some of their key responsibilities include:
- provide valuable advice to Council on matters affecting young people
- create opportunities for young people to engage with Council and have their voices heard
- advocate for the interests, challenges, and opportunities faced by young people
- offer input and feedback on relevant matters referred from Council before formal decisions are made.
If you’re passionate about making a difference, speaking up for your peers, and helping shape a brighter future for young people in the City of Whittlesea, this is your chance to get involved.
Applications are open, closing Sunday 20 October 2025.
