Calling all pet lovers - Help shape the future Animal Management Plan

DAMP Have your say

The City of Whittlesea is inviting community members to have their say on the future of pet management across the City of Whittlesea as it develops its next Domestic Animal Management Plan (DAMP) 2026–2030.

The plan will guide how Council supports responsible pet ownership, responds to problems like barking dogs, dog attacks and strays as well as working with local shelters and animal welfare groups. It will also outline how resources are used to keep pets, people and wildlife safe.

This plan is an important step in keeping our community safe by addressing ways to reduce risks and improve the quality of life for both pets and residents.

We're encouraging all residents - whether pet owners or not - to share their thoughts. Community consultation is open now, and residents can take part online or by visiting one of several pop-up conversation stands across the area.

Pop-up stands will be held at multiple locations including:

  • Mernda Community Activity Centre – Wednesday 4 June, 5-7pm
  • Norris Bank Reserve Dog Park, Bundoora – Saturday 14 June, 9-11am
  • Redleap Recreation Reserve, Mill Park – Sunday 15 June, 10am-12pm

Quotes attributed to City of Whittlesea Mayor, Councillor Martin Taylor:

“We are currently developing our next Domestic Animal Management Plan (2026–2030), and we want to hear from our community. By working together, we can create a safer, more harmonious environment for all, where the rights and responsibilities of pet owners are respected, and the wellbeing of animals and residents is protected. We encourage everyone to get involved and share their thoughts on the future of animal management in the City of Whittlesea. Together, we can foster a community where animals and people live safely and respectfully side by side.”
