Dog lovers in Lalor could soon have a new spot for their pets to run, play and socialise, with plans underway for an off-leash dog park at VR Michael Reserve.

Residents are invited to have their say on a draft concept plan for the park that includes fenced lawn and gravel areas, garden beds, seating, a drinking fountain, shelter, lighting and bins.

Separate zones will cater to dogs of all sizes and temperaments. The plan also proposes a new concrete path to improve accessibility and additional trees to provide shade.

The project responds to strong community feedback calling for more local spaces where dogs can safely exercise and socialise.

Community consultation is currently open and runs until 14 November 2025. Residents can view the draft concept plan and complete a short survey on Engage Whittlesea website.

Feedback will help shape the final concept plan, which will be shared with the community before construction begins.

Works are expected to start next year once designs are finalised and funding is confirmed.

The project is supported by the Victorian Government’s New and Upgraded Dog Parks Program.

Quotes attributable to City of Whittlesea Mayor, Councillor Martin Taylor:

“This project will give local dog owners a safe and welcoming space to enjoy with their pets, while also helping strengthen community connections.

“We’ve heard from our community how important open spaces are for both people and their pets. The new dog park will be a great addition to VR Michael Reserve.

“I encourage dog owners in the Lalor area to visit Council’s Engage page and fill out the short survey so that your feedback can be incorporated into the final design.”
