The City of Whittlesea has made the decision not to approve a planning permit for a proposed place of worship and community facility at 330 Grants Road, Woodstock.

The proposal was carefully considered against the Whittlesea Planning Scheme and state planning policies, including potential impacts Green Wedge zone, rural character of the area and traffic. Following a thorough review of technical assessments and community submissions, Council has resolved to refuse the planning permit applications, determining that the proposal does not meet the planning requirements for the proposal to align with the values of the Green Wedge zone.

Council acknowledges the strong community interest in the proposal and encourages ongoing engagement with future projects that support cultural and wellbeing initiatives, in ways that align with green wedge protections and neighbourhood character.

Quotes attributable to Martin Taylor, Mayor of the City of Whittlesea:

"While we recognise the applicant’s efforts and the community interest in additional facilities, Council must ensure developments respect the rural and environmental values of our Green Wedge Zone. We remain committed to supporting initiatives that enrich our community and will continue to work with groups to explore alternative solutions in suitable locations."
