Celebrate the completion of major upgrades to Peter Hopper Lake at Redleap Recreation Reserve, Mill Park, at a free community day this month.

The Peter Hopper Lake Community Day will give people of all ages the chance to explore the upgraded lake, learn more about local wildlife and enjoy a range of family-friendly activities.

The event, which runs from 10am to 1pm on Sunday 27 September, will feature environmental and wildlife activities, birdwatching and face painting. A coffee van will also be onsite.

The community day will celebrate the completion of a $4.9 million revitalisation project that has created more opportunities for people to enjoy the outdoors and connect with nature at Peter Hopper Lake.

The project delivered major environmental improvements to enhance water quality, improve stormwater management and support the long-term health of the lake.

Among the other improvements delivered is a new concrete circuit path around the lake, creating a more accessible and enjoyable space for walking, running and recreation.

Visitors can also enjoy new seating, landscaping and lighting, along with a viewing platform that offers scenic views across the lake and opportunities to observe wildlife.

Local resident Karen welcomed the improvements to the lake.

"Peter Hopper Lake is one of my favourite places to walk the dog," she said.

"The new path has made it easier to get around the lake, and the upgrades have made the whole area feel more welcoming and enjoyable."

The project was funded by the City of Whittlesea, with a $2 million contribution from the Australian Government through its Urban Rivers and Catchments Program.
