Environmental grants help landowners protect and improve their land

Applications are now open for the City of Whittlesea’s Environmental Works Grant Program, with eligible rural landowners able to apply for up to $6,000 to support practical projects that improve land management and protect the natural environment.
Funding can support projects such as fencing, erosion control, weed management, revegetation works that improve biodiversity, protection of remnant vegetation, installing water troughs, integrated pest animal control and other sustainable land management practices.
The grants provide landowners with an opportunity to make practical improvements on their properties while contributing to healthier waterways, increased biodiversity and stronger wildlife corridors.
Eden Park resident Norm has used the program over the past decade to fence sections of Barbers Creek and a nearby farm dam, plant thousands of trees, shrubs and waterway plants, and install nest boxes for local wildlife.
The work has helped reduce erosion, improve the health of the waterway and create habitat for native animals, with increased birdlife and more frogs and lizards returning to the property.
Norm said the support had made it possible to undertake works that have delivered lasting environmental benefits.
The Environmental Works Grant Program is one of several funding opportunities available through the City of Whittlesea’s Community Grants Program.
Expressions of Interest (EOIs) can be submitted any time, with applications now open until 30 November.
