The City of Whittlesea are running a series of Do-It-Yourself (DIY) cat enclosure-building workshops to help cat owners ahead of the introduction of new cat regulations in August 2023.
The free workshops will provide pet owners with simple and easy DIY ideas to help keep their cats safely and happily contained to their home.
The workshops, along with a number of self-help videos on the City of Whittlesea website, will support cat owners to cat-proof their property and maintain the welfare of their cats and local wildlife.
Free DIY workshops will be held at the following locations:
The sessions will be run by local handyman Matt, who will show participants how to build their own cat enclosure and the materials needed to complete it. City of Whittlesea Animal Management staff will also be available to answer any questions about the new cat regulations.
From 1 August 2023, all cats will be required to be confined to their owner’s property or under effective control when outside the property. Newly registered cats will also be required to be de-sexed.
To book to attend a workshop, go to Cat management webpage. You can also find further information and support on this page to help prepare for the upcoming cat confinement changes.
