Have your say on the future use of the Brookwood Community Centre

Local residents, regular hirers, and the wider community are encouraged to provide their feedback on a proposal to lease part of the Brookwood Community Centre in Doreen to the Doreen RSL.

In April 2025, the Federal Government committed $1.6 million for the establishment of a permanent base for the Doreen RSL at the Council-owned Brookwood Community Centre, on Hazel Glen Drive in Doreen, subject to a Council decision.

The Brookwood Community Centre currently operates as a community facility, offering three spaces for both casual and regular hire, with nine regular hirers of the facility at present.

At the Council Meeting on 21 April 2026, Council considered a range of options that may allow the Doreen RSL use of the Brookwood Community Centre. Council resolved that the preferred option is to lease part of the Brookwood Community Centre to the Doreen RSL, while maintaining the remainder of the centre for community use.   

However, before making a final decision, Council is committed to hearing from the community in relation to this proposal.

Have your say

Council has invited stakeholders and regular hirers of the Brookwood Community Centre to provide their feedback on the proposal.

Community members can also have their say by visiting engage.whittlesea.vic.gov.au/brookwoodleasing from 4 –31 May 2026 and completing a submission form.

Anyone providing feedback can also opt to have their submission heard at a Hearing of Submissions Committee Meeting on 11 June at 6pm in the Council Chamber, Civic Centre, South Morang.

Following the consultation period, a report will be prepared and presented at the 21 July Council Meeting for a Council decision.
