We all have a part to play in keeping children safe

With students back at school after the winter break, the City of Whittlesea is reminding everyone in the community to help keep children safe near schools. 

Whether you're a parent, driver, neighbour or just passing by, your actions near schools matter. 

Every day, children walk across busy streets, use crossings and move through car parks on their way to and from school. Unsafe or careless driving including parking incorrectly, speeding or being distracted, can quickly put children at risk, especially in areas with high foot traffic and limited visibility. 

We encourage everyone to: 

• follow all road signs near schools 
• don’t stop in no-stopping or no-parking zones, even for a short time 
• never block driveways, crossings or corners 
• drive slowly and pay attention, especially at school pick-up and drop-off times.
