Norris Bank Reserve is a 10.3 hectare open space in Bundoora.

It's located on the north bank of Darebin Creek approximately 500m West of Plenty Road, and within walking distance of the Bundoora Shops.

Master plan objectives

In October 2017, we adopted a master plan for Norris Bank Reserve that will see Norris Bank Reserve upgraded and improved going into the future. These were our objectives:

  • create a regional open space for all ages and abilities
  • promote and facilitate social community use and events
  • encourage and support informal active recreation
  • protect and enhance the ecological and cultural landscape
  • establish a safe and well maintained reserve.

Project progress

Stage 1 - off leash dog area - complete

A dedicated dog off-leash area was established in 2018. A drink fountain with integrated dog bowls was built. A bench seat, a litter bin and new fencing was installed.

Stage 2 - community play space - complete

Construction of a major community play space is complete, and includes the following:

  • 6m high play tower with slides, monkey bars, rope play and interactive elements
  • upgraded picnic facilities
  • water play
  • a beginner’s skate/ scooter loop
  • an accessible Changing Places facility.

Stage 3 - bocce courts - complete

The bocce courts at Norris Bank Reserve were upgraded in late 2020.

 

Stage 4 - multi use youth space - complete

The western precinct at Norris Bank Reserve was redeveloped into a multi-use youth space. The redevelopment included:

  • an upgraded multi-use basketball court
  • a performance space with Bluetooth speakers for small scale, impromptu performances
  • a shelter and social gathering space with WIFI access
  • a grass embankment 
  • feature LED lighting
  • an upgraded path network to improve access to the broader reserve and public transport.

Construction started in April 2023 and the reserve had an opening ceremony in November 2023 when the major works were complete.

Frequently asked questions

Were the toilets included in the upgrade?

Yes, a new accessible Changing Places toilet has been installed.

What type of equipment was included in the upgrade?

The new play equipment includes:

  • 6m high play tower with slides, monkey bars, rope play and interactive elements
  • a range of swings including a birds nest swing and liberty swing
  • flying fox
  • trampolines.

Was the liberty swing removed?

The liberty swing was refurbished and relocated in the play area next to the range of other swings.

Did the upgrade include water play?

Yes, the upgrade includes a water play area.

Did the upgrade include additional parking?

Additional parking was not included in the upgrade. As part of the implementation of the Norris Bank Master plan, a traffic review will be undertaken to assess the need for further parking.
