Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

Where is the closure taking place?

The road is currently closed between:

  • Plenty Road and Thompson Park Drive in Eden Park
  • Selkirk Road/Sixth Avenue and Fifth Avenue.

As repairs progress, the closure will move along Grants Road to allow further works to be completed. Upcoming works may require additional short-term closures on Grants Road including:

  • Merriang Road to Selkirk Road
  • Fifth Avenue to Barbers Creek, and
  • Grants Road intersection.

Why is the road being closed?

The deterioration has been caused by heavy trucks travelling to and from a privately owned property where a large dam is being constructed under a Melbourne Water permit. Under the conditions of the approved Traffic Management Plan, any damage caused must be repaired.

Council is working with the property owner, their contractor, and Melbourne Water to ensure urgent repairs are completed and that those responsible meet their obligations. Our priority is to restore the road and minimise disruptions for residents and local traffic. While current laws do not allow us to restrict truck access to Grants Road, we are ensuring the responsible parties carry out all necessary repairs promptly and safely.

What work is being done?

The project includes:

  • removing and rebuilding damaged sections of the road
  • resurfacing the road
  • line-marking.

How long will the closure last?

These works are essential to ensure the safety of the road, and we aim to complete the works by Friday 12 December. Please note that bad weather or unforeseen circumstances may cause delays, but we will work as quickly as possible to re-open the road.

Will residents still be able to access their properties?

Yes. Residents within closed sections will still be able to access their properties throughout the project.

What about trucks and heavy vehicles?

If you require special accessor need to arrange entry for heavy vehicles, please contact Council in advance to coordinate access.

Will there be a detour?

Yes. Detour routes will be clearly signposted, directing through traffic safely around the work zone.

Traffic controllers will be present Monday to Saturday, 7am to 5pm, to assist drivers and residents as needed.
