Hill Top Splash Park and Playground

Families now have a new go-to destination for fun in the sun after the City of Whittlesea opened the gates on its revamped Hill Top Splash Park and Playground.

The $2.6 million upgrade has delivered a range of features for people of all ages and abilities to enjoy in the peaceful surrounds of Landano Way in Doreen.

Features

The upgrade has delivered:

  • Splash pad with jets, misters and water channels for interactive play
  • Upgraded playground with slides, swings, climbing nets, trampoline, cubby and rocker
  • New nature play area with logs, boulders and winding paths for children to explore
  • New public toilet with Changing Places facility for people with higher needs
  • Upgraded car park to accommodate additional visitors
  • Picnic shelters, barbecues and seating
  • New public lighting to meet Australian standards
  • General landscaping improvements such as paths, garden beds and trees
  • Disability Discrimination Act compliant paths and surfaces to improve accessibility for mobility impaired community members.

Consultation

In late 2023, Council invited community members to have their say on the types of play equipment and splash park features they would like to see in the park.

During this community consultation period, Council received more than 730 contributions, which informed the creation of a draft concept plan.

The draft concept plan was then put out for consultation and a further 234 contributions were received, which helped inform the final plans.

Project funding

The City of Whittlesea contributed $600,000 towards the project, with the support of $1.5 million from the Australian Government’s Investing in Our Communities Program and $500,000 from the Victorian Government’s Open Space for Everyone – Better Parks and Playgrounds Program.
