Neighbourhood houses

You can enrol in a variety of learning courses and meet new people with similar interests at our local neighbourhood houses and community-based learning centres.

Each centre offers slightly different types of courses, which are run during school terms.

Creeds Farm Living and Learning Centre

The Creeds Farm Living and Learning Centre provides opportunities for people of all ages to meet, enjoy social and recreational activities, and participate in courses or workshops.

The centre, which has an environmentally-sustainable design, will become a tool for environmental education. You can learn how to adapt the eco-design of the centre to your home or workplace, and learn how to develop a sustainable community garden.

Other activities include:

  • programs for children, teens and families
  • computer and business classes
  • small business workshop courses
  • public access computer program
  • conference room facilities for hire
  • a variety of health and wellbeing classes and workshops

Greenbrook Community House

Greenbrook Community House is a welcoming and inclusive space. It provides a number of creative programs that encourage personal development, self-esteem and artistic expression.

Numbers are limited in some programs and bookings are essential.

Programs include:

  • Art classes for children and adults
  • Mosaic classes
  • All abilities music and dance workshops
  • All abilities Green-thumbs Garden Group
  • Singing group
  • Yoga and relaxation for beginners  
  • Get Crafty (a friendly social craft group)
  • Triple G Community Garden Group  
  • Community Art fiestas - free seasonal events for all ages
  • Greenbrook book exchange

Lalor Neighbourhood House

The Lalor Neighbourhood House is a registered training organisation and neighbourhood house encouraging life-long learning for all ages and for people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.

It is a not-for-profit community-run association that has been offering services to locals for over 25 years.

Programs offered, including nationally accredited courses:

  • Certificates I to III in Spoken and Written English
  • Certificate I in General Education for Adults
  • Certificate I in Information, Digital Media and Technology
  • Operate Accounting Applications (MYOB)
  • Computer and internet courses
  • English language programs for people looking for employment

Other activities include:

  • fully licensed occasional childcare service
  • after-school tutoring program for primary and secondary students
  • multicultural choir
  • support programs for community members and community groups
  • volunteer opportunities

Mill Park Community House and Adult Training Support Service

The Mill Park Community House offers programs for people of all abilities including:

  • accredited training in Certificate 1 and 2 in Business
  • accredited training in Certificate 1 and 2 in Information Technology
  • computer courses
  • medical reception and a range of allied health courses
  • accounting packages
  • dressmaking and associated craft programs
  • yoga/meditation 
  • children’s craft and teen sewing
  • parenting programs

Support services include:

  • legal advice
  • parenting programs
  • support for people with a disability
  • occasional child care
  • counselling

Thomastown Neighbourhood House

Thomastown Neighbourhood House is located in the heart of Thomastown on the site of Thomastown Library and next door to Thomastown Recreation and Aquatic Centre.

It offers a range of programs including:

  • playgroup
  • meditation
  • introduction to computers
  • introduction to office skills
  • introduction to social media

Whittlesea Community House

Whittlesea Community House is a great place to find out what is going on in your neighbourhood and to participate in groups and activities as well as lifelong learning.  Join our groups, classes or our team of Volunteers.  Whittlesea Community House also offers food relief services(as well as pet food) and has a community pantry accessible after hours.

Get help from our team of experts on Fix it Friday - held once per month (usually the last Friday).  Assistance available including:  Legal, Financial, NDIS, My Aged Care, Centrelink, Police – crime reporting and Stat Decs, Mental Health support, No Interest Loans and heaps more!  Call to register.

Mernda Neighbourhood House
