Whittlesea Gambling Youth Project

Online gambling and sports betting are becoming increasingly popular in Victoria each year.

And, unfortunately, this also means that problems associated with it are increasing as well, particularly amongst younger people.

To help address this issue, City of Whittlesea engaged 15 local young people to design a campaign based on their lived experience. They all shared a similar story, young people are gambling more in order to fit in and it has become increasingly hard to watch friends lose out, both financially and socially.

So, we’ve launched a brand new initiative called Be the Boss.

We want you to take charge of your betting. You should be the one who makes the rules as well as the right decisions. You’re in control of your bets, not the other way around.

From January 2022 we’ll be sharing a whole bunch of messages through social media that will remind people what the smart plays are.

We’ll be doing it with a bit of fun, because if you are going to have a bet, that’s exactly what it should be. Fun.

It’s not about telling people what to do.

It’s about giving you information to make your own decisions.

So please, watch out for it on your social feeds, share it with your friends and families, and get involved. It’s a great way for all of us to take care of ourselves and look out for one another.

You make the decisions.

You’re the boss, so be the boss.
