About the project

The City of Whittlesea is constructing a cycling path along the north side of McDonalds Road between Scarborough Road and the E6 Reserve.

The new path will fill a missing link in the cycling path network and provide a continuous connection between Epping and Plenty Valley town centre.

The cycling path will improve safety and connectivity for cyclists and link with places such as Greenbrook Shopping Centre, Meadowglen International Athletics Stadium and local schools.

The project aligns with Council’s Connected Community, Liveable Neighbourhoods and Sustainable Environment goals contained in the Whittlesea 2040: A place for all vision, as well as the Walking and Cycling Plan 2022-2027.

Features

The project will deliver:

Construction of a cycling path approximately 900 metres long and 2.5 metres wide
Installation of three raised crossings at Scarborough Road, Derby Drive and Cabot Drive
Construction of a concrete driveway from the property boundary to the cycling path, and an asphalt driveway from the path to McDonalds Road
Bollards and stormwater drainage improvements along McDonalds Road.

Timeline

Construction is expected to start in mid-September 2025 and continue until the end of March 2026, subject to weather conditions and other factors.

Consultation

In 2022, Council sought feedback from residents living on the north side of McDonalds Road on the proposed project.

A majority of residents living on McDonalds Road between Scarborough Road and the E6 Reserve were in favour of constructing the cycling path separate from the existing footpath.

All feedback gathered during this consultation process helped inform the final concept plan.
