Refugee Week

Refugee Week was celebrated across the country from Sunday 14 June to Saturday 20 June 2026.

This year’s theme was One Million Stories. It marked a powerful milestone and recognised the million stories behind it - each one unique, each one powerful, and together shaping the Australia we all call home today.

The theme reminds us that this is about more than a number. Every person’s journey influences many others - families, future generations and communities - forming a rich and vibrant tapestry of cultures, experiences and contributions. It also invites us to reflect on how we can continue to welcome people seeking safety, show kindness, and create a stronger sense of belonging for all.

Each year, the City of Whittlesea proudly celebrates Refugee Week and welcomes people of diverse backgrounds who have come from around the world.
