Community feedback has shaped the final Lauries Field Master Plan which was endorsed by Council at its meeting on Tuesday 19 May.

The Master Plan was revised to align with community sentiment in particular in regard to keeping the much-loved local lake.

Council thanks the more than 850 community members who contributed feedback across three phases of consultation, including online surveys and in-person pop-up sessions. This valuable input has played a critical role in ensuring the plan reflects local values, priorities and aspirations.

Council is committed to listening and responding to the community, and the message was clear with a strong preference to retain the existing lake and improve its condition. This feedback directly informed revisions to the draft master plan, alongside refinements to conservation areas, vegetation management and car parking. The revised plan was then returned to the community for further consultation, with the majority of residents supporting the updates.

The Lauries Field Master Plan sets a long-term vision for the park as a revitalised, nature-integrated space that supports accessibility, environmental care and community wellbeing. As a long-term planning document, the delivery of the initiatives outlined in the plan will be dependent on future funding opportunities.

Key features of the Lauries Field Master Plan include:

  • improved walking path connections to make it easier and safer to get around the park, including upgraded crossings, entrances and wayfinding
  • car parking will be reconfigured to maintain capacity while improving safety and open space outcomes
  • more spaces for play and activity, including a new sports court, fitness equipment and upgraded playground. Picnic areas, seating and shade will also be improved to make visits more comfortable and enjoyable
  • improved lighting and new vegetation will help make the park feel safer and improve visibility throughout key areas.
  • a strong focus on environmental outcomes, including improving the health of the lake, protecting conservation areas and increasing native planting. Long-term tree planning and landscape upgrades will enhance the park’s natural look and support local biodiversity.

The Lauries Field Master Plan reflects a shared vision between Council and the community to create a welcoming, inclusive and environmentally sustainable space for people of all ages to connect, play and relax.
