Our city has 160 children’s school crossings. Most are supervised by school crossing supervisors who help young children cross the road safely on their way to and from school.
Some of these crossings also feature pedestrian-operated signals where required.
Drivers are responsible for driving and parking safely at all times, especially around school crossings.
When driving near school crossings, remember the following.
- Always keep the children’s crossing clear.
- Parking is not allowed within 20 m before a school crossing or 10 m after the crossing (unless otherwise signposted). Parking within this area makes it difficult for children and the crossing supervisor to get a clear view of the road.
- It is illegal to double park your car (i.e. you are not allowed to stop next to a parked car).
We often seek new school crossing supervisors to responsibly supervise school crossings during short morning and afternoon shifts.
Here's why you'll love being a crossing supervisor with us:
- Make a real difference by keeping our kids safe on their way to and from school.
- Enjoy flexible hours, working 1.5 hours per day during school terms (mornings and afternoons).
- Competitive pay with a starting rate of $35.02/hour (paid for 52 weeks/year, even if you work 40).
- Benefits from paid public holidays, superannuation, sick leave, uniforms, discounts at leisure centers, and more.
- We provide support and training to ensure you have everything you need to succeed.
To be considered for this important job, you must:
- be medically fit
- have your own transport
- be of good character
- relate well to children
- be able to talk to children’s parents and teachers
- be available to work for 1.5 hours per day, usually 8–9 am and 3–4 pm on weekdays during school terms
- be eligible for a Working with Children Check.
